It is extremely exhilarating to taxi out to the hold line before the performance. After the engine run-up, the Air Boss releases the performer for their routine. Maintaining focus and clarity of mind is key to a safe, yet entertaining performance.

Before I get “cleared into the aerobatic box”, I do an engine run-up, review my first 3 maneuvers, and ensure that my controls are free and not blocked. I close my eyes and thank God I can do what I love to do, then give it full throttle for take off.

Many times, it’s important that I am ready to go right on time because of a tight airshow schedule. While I wait for the previous performer to finish their routine, it’s fun to look back at the crowd to see the size of the crowd and visualize what they see from their vantage point.
